Past 5-yr Highlights:

Who says getting old is a drag? As an “Elder Orphan” I feel more freedom and authenticity than ever before!  I’ve learned so much as parents and Dear Ones have “Completed Their Lives”. In 2011 I retired in “protest” from my beloved work, when “headquarters” defunded People First of CA (self-advocacy of people w/ D.D); 3yrs later Charlie, who I knew from living on a commune 40 yrs ago, moved in with me (him/2x widow’d – me 2x/divorced); and now, newly married and only child Cimarron, is predicted to make me a Grandma on the day of our 50th Reunion! Cosmic Timing! Meanwhile,

if you haven’t heard, I’m all in for Delaine Eastin being CA’s next and 1st woman Governor! “People Get Ready... there’s a blue/female/wave Acome’n”.

Love Is All There Is

CHS Class of 68" we rocked!

And if there’s any doubt…the latest issue of AARP features “1968 the year that rocked our world”  Was it the times…the people…the tequila?
Where are we now and where do we want to go? That’s my 64K$ question. I have a fantasy that over the weekend the interested few will create space and time to ask questions and share answers.

BIO Highlights: Home is Chico 12+ yrs; post Shasta and Sonoma Co. communal living; post Philippine and Missouri adventure with Rob T; Anthropology Special Ed degrees led to my passionate 25 yr civil rights/system change career in the D.D. field; son, Cimarron, getting a physics/ oceanography PhD at MIT (Dad-brains; Mom-heart to save the world); love service and building community led to helping start Hill County Community Clinic in Shasta Co. and 7+ yr on BOD of local "community" radio station KZFR.

Comment:

Seems like yesterday I was worrying about R.K. Jones' term paper, trying to hit the curve ball off that big lefty from Mar Vista, plodding through math homework with John Finneran and borrowing lunch money from Gwyn O'Toole.  Spent 27 years at the Univ of Washington in Seattle and just moved last July to new job at Univ of Piittsburgh.  Don't know yet if I can make the reunion, but I hope I can--it's reassuring to see that John Little hasn't changed a bit in 40 years.  My 85-year-old Dad still lives on Palm Ave; you will see him playing golf at North Island 3 days/week. Best of luck to everyone!

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: faux / tromp l'oile artist
Comment: Don't know for sure if we will make it, but we will try.  Linda ( DeLong 'class of 74) and I have been living up here on the Central Coast (exact location is a closely gaurded secret or I will be hung for treason), town population 12K,  for the last 35 years, would't live anywhere else, but the water is cold all year.  We have 2 kids, Matt 21 and Sandie 27, 2 turtles, a large jack demsey cichlid and 400 Jack Russel Terriers (all rolled into one .. if you have one you know what I mean)

Art has long been my passion and I am fortuneate to be able to make a good living as a faux/tromp l'oile/ mural artist.  I  belong to a southwestern states artist co-op and get to travel to some great places for work, just finished a luxury hotel job iat Punta Frailles, Cabo Pulmo in the Cabo San Lucas area... surf, fish and art,it doesn't get any better.

I still surf almost everyday and am known for getting very grumpy at "my" spot if more than 8 people paddle out (or if I have to slow down to 65 at rush hour)...and we do have some big men in grey suits in the line up here, gotta watch my toes...

Despite still owning a home in Coronado we rarely get back, ( 1 or 2 times / 5years...WAY too crowded down there for us)  so it would be fun to check in... have fun all

Comment: I think it's ironic that of the three class reunions I've attended, two of them were while I was living on the East Coast--such is the life of a nomad!

Freshman year, I went to Southwestern College, but then attended the University of Maryland in Munich, Germany, my sophomore year while we were stationed in London.  Instead of returning to San Diego State per my plans, I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Dad’s alma mater) with a degree in Journalism.  I briefly worked in Washington, DC, long enough to earn money for my move back to San Diego.

I alternated working in publishing and the travel industries for 25 years before moving to Boston after my divorce (no kids)--even though I lived in RI and VA as a kid, it really was a shock adjusting to minus 20-degree wind chills and having to shovel snow, but I managed to survive that climate fore nearly 5 years...

In 2022, I moved to Kernersville (between Greensboro and Winston-Salem in Western North Carolina) to be close to cousins from my Dad's side. I absolutely love the sense of community here, have great neighbors and even joined the Community Garden--my first foray into vegetable gardening!  Although the beach is over 4 hours away, I'm much closer to the Blue Ridge Mountains and some excellent hiking trails/scenic lookouts, so I hope to get up there in Autumn!

I also would like to thank the Reunion Committee for all their efforts to date as I know how much work and planning goes into pulling off events like these...Cheers to Class of ‘68!

Looking forward to seeing everyone.

My wife & I have a Marketing Firm that has corporate and military accounts.  We private label as well as develop custom products for clients.  One thing we are proud of is running the official site for the Navy called Ship-To-Shore, (www.ship-to-shore.net & www.ussrr.com), which are fund raisers for the MWR.

We have a daughter Monet who is a Labor & Delivery Nurse in SF and a son Zane who is a writer and an artist.

I'm still doing some music and a few years ago got to join the Swagmen, (Parkway Records),  replacing one of the original members on their reunion tour.

See you Saturday.

Finish those botox injections, get serious on that diet, and use that line of credit to get those killer clothes Then plan on being here for the 40th in July..no excuses except death and that must be proven by 3 competent witnesses..all other absences will result in multiple felony charges and loss of all your real estate. This is going to be one fun time.
